Sunshine Spoils Milk Wants YOUR Stories
Can you believe Sunshine Spoils Milk is two years old?! No? It’s okay; I can’t either. But as the site approaches its two year “whatever-you-want-to-call-it-a-versary,” I want to say thank you. Thank you for being a part of Sunshine Spoils Milk— and my family.
Thank you for being a part of our amazing little mental health community.
I’ve also been giving a lot of thought to the future of Sunshine Spoils Milk — and my work — and I’ve decided to make some changes (some you may have noticed already)!
You see, when I started Sunshine Spoils Milk my goal was clear: I wanted to give a personal voice to a clinical problem. I wanted to tell my story of “life with a mental illness.” However, over the last two years a lot has changed and, as a result, my blog has become something of patchwork quilt. (I’ve written parenting and relationships articles, body image stories, mental health stories, and news pieces — including some which are politically-slanted.) And while I love writing about everything and anything, I want to return to my roots and make Sunshine Spoils Milk not only a mental health site, but a mental health community. However, in order to do so, I need you.
I need your voices.
I need your stories.
What This Means For SSM
Well, in short, Sunshine Spoils Milk undergoing a bit of a transition. While I will still share write parenting and relationship pieces, the bulk of the content on SSM will focus on mental health. Make no mistake: over the last two years I have published a lot of “crossover content” — i.e. explaining depression to a toddler, how to talk to your child about suicide, and to the man who loves me in spite of my depression — and I will continue to do so, but I will also be doing more generalized posts about depression, anxiety, eating disorders, alcoholism, and suicide prevention. I will be covering mental health news and studies while working on a more thorough “how to help” guide for families and friends.
But — and this is one BIG but — I will also be seeking out new content.
That’s right: Sunshine Spoils Milk is OPEN TO SUBMISSIONS.
Why? Well, I am but one person — one person, with one voice and one experience — in order to make Sunshine Spoils Milk a mental health-based community, I need to YOUR stories. Your struggles. Your successes.
I want YOUR voices.
What’s more, while I can speak about several mental illnesses, there are countless others I have never experienced (and, more likely than not, never will). But you can. And I want to hear about your experience. I want to share your experience. I want others to read your words realize they are not alone.
Submissions are NOW OPEN. For more information please visit our brand-new “Submit” page, and please do not be deterred if you are not a “professional writer:” honesty and candor go a long way.
